Manes Nussbaum

1771 - 1857

 

Manes Nussbaum was born on August 19, 1771 in Burghaun close to Fulda. In 1800 the young  Manes moved to Hammelburg. He was a cloth merchant. He became treasurer of the Jewish community of Hammelburg. His wife was Marianne born on May 5, 1775 in Willmars. She died in 1854. Manes and Marianne had the following children:

 

Samuel Nussbaum was born on February 20, 1801. He died on December 31, 1885.

Israel Nussbaum was born on November 18, 1804. He died on March 20, 1881.

Fayele Nussbaum was born on June 2, 1807.

Minna Nussbaum was born on September 29, 1815.

Hirsch (Hermann) Nussbaum was born in 1816. He died in 1887.

Babette Nussbaum was born on April 18, 1819. She died in January 1892.

 The sons of  Manes and Marianne Nussbaum

became citizens of  Hammelburg.

 

 

 

Samuel Nussbaum

had three daughters: Klara, Babette and Elise.

 

  

Israel Nussbaum

had the following children:

Seligmann (* 1827); Simon (* 1838); Pauline (* 1831) and Leopold Löb (* 1835).

 

  

Hirsch Nussbaum

was married to Sophie Frank (* 1815 in Arnstein).

Their children were

Sigmund (* 1844); Adolf (* 1846); Simon (* 1848); Fanny und Lina

 

 

Sigmund, Adolf and Simon

became citizens of Hammelburg.

They built new houses

on the Marktplatz 10 (later Bahnhofstraße 3) and in the Kissinger Straße 3 - 5.

 

Adolf  founded a hardware store.

Simon was the owner of a big garment store in Hammelburg.

 

 

The sons of Adolf, Sigmund and Simon were ousted by the Nazis.

Rosa, the daughter of Sigmund

and Hermann, the youngest son of Simon were murdered in the Holocaust.

 

  

 

 

 Jewish Cemetery of  Pfaffenhausen

 The cemetery was desecrated by the Nazis in November 1938.
